Driving without fully functioning headlights can put you at risk of losing visibility after dark. With this in mind, if your headlights begin to dim or demonstrate the other signs of trouble outlined below, it’s best to head to your local Chevy dealer for new headlights without delay.

Your Headlights Are Dimming

One of the most common indications of failing headlights is dimming light ahead of your car. Any reduction in headlight brightness impacts visibility, so it’s important to fix the problem as soon as possible.

Fading light will often stem from an aging bulb on its last legs. But if your headlight bulbs are fine, there may be a corroded connection, damaged wiring, or another issue with the underlying electrical supply.

Your Headlights Are Flickering

Flickering or uneven light might result from a problem with the bulbs, the bulb harness, the wiring, or the electrical supply. If you’re using halogen headlight bulbs, one of the filaments may have burned out or broken, which can cause the light to flicker. You’ll probably need a technician to diagnose and repair the fault.

Your Headlights Are Cloudy

Sometimes the lenses of headlights can become discolored or damaged by too much UV light from the sun. Excessive scratches can cause similar damage to the lenses, resulting in a cloudy quality to the light ahead of your car. Hazy or cloudy light often means the headlight lenses need to be replaced.

One of Your Headlights Fails

If the light fails completely on one side of your car, then one of your bulbs may have blown. When this happens, the other bulb in the pair may soon follow and might already be losing power. For this reason, it’s a good rule of thumb to replace both headlight bulbs in a pair when one dies.

Your Headlight Fuse Keeps Blowing

Problems with a headlight bulb, a bulb harness, or a bulb’s installation can sometimes cause the headlight fuse to keep blowing. A repeatedly blowing headlight fuse should prompt a visit to your local mechanic to have the issue diagnosed and repaired.

Your Chevy Dealer Identifies a Problem

It’s wise to have the electrical system in your car routinely checked at your local dealership. Preventative maintenance is the best way to keep your vehicle’s headlights and other electrical components in tip-top condition. If the technician finds a potential fault with your headlights, they’ll be able to nip the problem in the bud before it worsens and threatens your visibility on the road.
